Pekka Niemelä continues as the head coach of the Finns. The 37-year old was nominated by the Finnish association Finnjumping for another two years and so he will lead the national team untill the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi/RUS.
Finnish ski jumper Harri Olli is going to make a comeback. The 27-year-old who finished his career in January 2011 has been seen training in Lahti.
Good news for all the fans of Martin Koch: after thinking about finishing his career the Austrian announced today that he will continue jumping.
Anders Bardal was successfull also when the 'ski king' of the season was chosen. The Norwegian got a total of 216 votes in the voting among 83 ski sport journalists from 11 nations and was in the third place behind the cross country skiing stars Dario Cologna (SUI/524 votes) and Marit Bjørgen (NOR/402 votes).
Also the last competition of the season was marked by difficult wind conditions. And so was also this race in Planica/SLO decided in one round. The victory went to Martin Koch from Austria, who had a lead of 16.9 points (222.5m) ahead of Simon Ammann (212m; 225.6 pts), who became second. The last place on today's podium was gained by the winner of the overall Ski Flying ranking, Robert Kranjec (204m/223.8 pts).
Austria was also unbeatable in the last team competition of the season. Thomas Morgenstern, Andreas Kofler, Gregor Schlierenzauer and Martin Koch (1619.3 pts) won ahead of Norway (Rune Velta, Anders Fannemel, Bjørn Einar Romøren and Anders Bardal; 1543.7 pts) and Germany (Maximilian Mechler, Severin Freund, Andreas Wank and Richard Freitag; 1522.2 pts).
Now it's official: the Finn Matti Hautamäki will make his lasts jumps at World Cup level today in the team competition in Planica and thus finish his career.
With jumps on 227.5 and 215 meters (434.3 pts) was Robert Kranjec unbeatable in front of his homecrowd and captured the victory with a margin of 10.9 points ahead of the Swiss Simon Ammann (212/222m; 423.4 pts). Third became the Austrian Martin Koch (225/218.5m; 418.6 pts).
The third last race of the season 2011/12 was won by Martin Koch today! At the Holmenkollen in Oslo/NOR showed the Austrian jumps on 130.5 and 130 meters and collected with that a total of 247.3 points. Severin Freund from Germany (123/124m; 238.9 pts) reached the second place in front of the Ski Flying World Champion Robert Kranjec (121/129m; 238 pts).
The first Ladies World Cup season ended yesterday like it began back in December: With a victory of the US-American Sarah Hendrickson. The 17-year-old celebrated her 9th win of the season with jumps on 104 and 99 meters (254.1 pts) ahead of Sara Takanashi (100.5/108m; 250.7 pts) and Anette Sagen (102/97m; 236.2 pts).
Daiki Ito was able to gain his fourth World Cup victory in Trondheim/NOR today. The Japanese showed jumps on 137.5 and 141 meters (295.1 pts) and improved with that the hill record of the Granåsen. Second became the German Richard Freitag (140.5/133m; 287.9 pts) ahead of Simon Ammann from Switzerland (132.5/140m; 285.3 pts).
Like yesterday's team competition was also the individual race held on the normal hill. The best performance during very difficult and changing conditions was shown by Daiki Ito from Japan (93/92m; 245.5 pts) who won ahead of the Norwegian Anders Bardal (90.5/96m; 239.2 pts). Third became Lukas Hlava from the Czech republic (90.5/94m; 237.2 pts).
